Best seafood

it has been the last dinner in Iceland, we had the three courses menu, outstanding! many different sorts of seafood, warm and cold. all perfectly prepared. perfect freshness and quality! I know what I'm talking about because in the business since 40 years. we will be back visiting Iceland in the summer season. compliments for your good job!

If you love seafood and personal service, go

I read about Vitinn in the travel magazine and took a chance. It was the best meal of the trip. Their special crab soup is rich and well seasoned with cayenne and curry. The cod was incredible. Ask about their fresh seafood tanks. The couple who run the restaurant are delightful and will tell you about Iceland's approach to sustainable seafood.

This lovely spot is a very cozy retreat on a chilly wet night. It is very easy to find. Just follow 41 to the Keflavik airport. As you pass the airport it turns into 429. Vitinn is just a few minutes down the road.

Wonderful seafood soup

Our last afternoon in Iceland, miserable weather, driving round the peninsula with nothing to see as the weather had closed in, with a view to abandoning the day and going straight back to the hotel. Stopped in Sandgerdi to top up the fuel in the hire car, and right next to the filling station saw Vitinn and decided to have a last bowl of fish soup.

It was midafternoon and we were the only customers, and the family were getting ready to receive a large party later on. The fish soup was stunning, with crab, mussels, shrimps - very warming, and served with lovely bread.

The dining area is charming, with tanks of fish and crabs - some pets, some for eating! - and the service was extremely friendly. A fitting end to our holiday.
